CBS ALL ACCESS it a streaming video service available in the US only at this point. While there are a ton of shows on the channel the driving force for people to subscribe is Star Trek: Discovery. I am one of those who subscribed for Discovery. I use a Roku device, with the plan of watching the show on TV. However, the first week the playback on the show said: “Error, try again later.” so naturally I tried again immediately, with the same results.

I logged on to All Access on my PC and watched the second half of the first episode, and didn’t think about it until the following week. Pulled up CBS All Access on my Roku and again got the  “Error, try again later.” so now I was suspicious it might not be a one time issue. I checked to make sure the Roku software was up to date and emailed Roku about the problem. I logged on to my PC again and watched the third episode of Discovery.

I never heard back from the Roku people, even until this date. The next week I tried to watch Discovery and again got the same “Error, try again later.” At that point, I had CBS All Access for a month and ironically I can’t access it from anything but my PC. As it turned out I couldn’t watch any of the shows from CBS All Access on my Roku, but I was only interested in Discovery so I hadn’t tried before this.

I contacted CBS and explained my situation. They emailed me back two possible solutions both of which were Roku related and not related to the CBS All Access app. The second solution worked and I now have all access to CBS All Access. It was nice that they didn’t try to pass the buck back to Roku and tell me to contact them, especially since Roku didn’t respond to my prior email.

I have to give high marks to their customer service. As it turns out, now that All Access is working there are several shows I want to watch.

The service works just like Netflix and allows you to watch CBS TV live or to stream the shows whenever it’s convenient for you.

This product is the future. You have full access to current and past CBS shows without having to pay for cable. If financially successful more channels will follow suit. Most people watch very few channels out of a large bundle of channels on basic cable. All Access is the first step in Network TV ala-cart service without cable TV.
