Meddling in History and Other Unsavory Affairs … Aldous Spark Graphic Novel
“The year is 1899. A secret war is being fought for the control of the 20th Century. At the center of the conflict is Aldous Spark, covert operative of the Black Moth Society, an underground collective of anarchists, saboteurs, and other deadly eccentrics. Together with his apprentice, Isaiah, Aldous wages a silent battle against the forces of power in an attempt to reshape the industrial age for the good of all.”
Aldous Spark is a graphic novel from Andrew Maxwell that launched after a very successful Kickstarter. Having raised 180% of their goal the book is complete and looking great. If you enjoyed graphic novels like Alan Moore’s League of Extraordinary Gentlemen then this book is right up your alley. Featuring the daring adventures of one Aldious Spark, criminal mastermind and magician infiltrating the elite social strata of the wealthy and foiling their grand plans at every step. Added by his trusty sidekick, Isaiah, Aldious uses all the resources of the Black Moth Society to confront corruption and injustice wherever he sees it. Gaslight-era England setting, secret societies, underground plots of doom, allies that seem more like enemies; Peter Mirani and Andrew Maxwell weave an intriguing story that has all the hallmarks of a grand adventure.
And what an ambitious first book to put out. An oversized hardcover format, which is more common in Europe, showcases the amazing talents of Mauricio Alvarez and Derek Dow. Great facial expressions with moody colours highlight the very detailed and professional artwork while plenty of extras in the back of the book really add to the experience.
The physical books are scheduled to arrive shortly from the printers, but people can message for preorders on the Aldous Spark Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/AldousSpark/. A web store is being sorted out and should be up very soon. The book will also be available digitally Comixology in early May. This is one book I can’t wait to add to my library and I’m hoping the story continues in a very long run of subsequent volumes.
