Wayne’s Worlds: Bedlam #5

Bedlam is written by one of my favorite comics writers, Nick Spencer. He explores topics and characters in ways I never imagined would be possible in the industry. I never know what he’s going to do next, and I enjoy that!

The subtitle for this Image book is: “Is evil just something you are or something you do?” Mr. Spencer is examining why villains are villains, and it’s a gripping and stunning study that is definitely NOT for kids.

Here’s the book’s general description: “Fillmore Press was once Madder Red, a homicidal maniac and criminal overlord who terrorized the town of Bedlam for years. Then he got better. This is what happens next.”

In this issue, available in local shops as of Wednesday, March 6, Press has earned the trust of a local police officer, who takes him on his first mission. In the companion storyline, Press is about to be released from the mental institution he was committed to. Both tales take interesting twists as the comic progresses.

This time, Cliff’s late for his date with Betty because he’s saving people left and right along the way. When he finally catches up with her, she has a big surprise for him. No, she doesn’t want him to give up being the Rocketeer … that would be too predictable. She has another idea in mind, something I can’t spoil here. You have to pick up the book to find out.

The pair get pulled into a mystery that will keep them busy and us gripped for months to come … well, as long as the current miniseries lasts, anyway!

Hats off to IDW for continuing the legend of the Rocketeer so strongly! If you haven’t read these stories before, don’t worry … you’ll pick up what you need to know along the way.

In the coming months, we’ll see that mystery unfold interlaced with shocks and surprises, so don’t miss it!
