The Archie Art of Francesco Francavilla – Review

Has anyone done more for Archie Comics in the last ten years then Francesco Francavilla did starting with his variant cover to Life With Archie #23 where he drew a zombie cover and cheekily renamed it Afterlife With Archie? That one issue changed the game for the company, a series based on the variant cover was approved and although it has burned out due to lack of published issues, the jolt it gave the company continues to this day.

Francesco Francavilla is one of this generations greatest comic book artists, his covers overflow with style and cleverness and his series of movie inspired posters is a thing to see. This book is a celebration of everything he has done for Archie; from the music inspired covers for Kiss and the Ramones to his run on the Archie horror comics, it is a loving tribute to the man who has done so much for the company.

Featuring over 100 pages, this hardcover book features full page reproductions of covers, text pieces for each section, examples of the progression from sketch to finished work and so much more. If you love great artwork this is a no-brainer, if you are a fan of Francesco Francavilla then it is a must have. It is as simple as that, a great product at a great price means it gets my highest recommendation.
