The Emotional Conclusion to a Dog’s Story About Freedom, Memory, and the 2000s American Dream
KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN: MARCH 10 – APRIL 9th, 2026
Some dogs remember what freedom tasted like. Sansha is one of them.
After the success of Issues 1 and 2, Mythworks returns to Kickstarter to complete the emotional journey of Sansha & Blanco, a bittersweet graphic novel told from a dog’s point of view. Issues 3 and 4 bring this tale to its haunting conclusion, as Sansha takes what may be her final chance at the freedom she’s never forgotten.
Set against a backdrop of vintage Americana, full of car hops, drive-in theaters, fading mobile home parks, and sepia-tinted memories, this story is about captivity, choice, and the question every caged creature asks: Is safety worth the price?
Issue 1 introduced Sansha and Blanco, two dogs trapped in their backyard. Sansha yearns for a freedom her brother cannot comprehend.
Issue 2 finds Sansha contemplating change, while the Twelve Lands (the neighborhood territories the dogs know as home) are visited by the mysterious Tweed Man.
Issues 3 & 4 complete the arc. Sansha takes what could be her final chance to achieve freedom, while flashback sequences reveal the mobile home park days when the world was wild, dangerous, and boundless. Blanco, content with his life, becomes a too-comforting voice in Sansha’s journey, advising her against the yearning he can’t share. One path leads to peace. The other to something freedom-shaped, but unreachable.
Through non-linear storytelling, we see the world as Sansha and Blanco do, somewhat fractured, emotional, and shaped by memory rather than chronology.
Based on a True Story: Creator Ray Chou grew up watching these dogs in his neighborhood, pondering their lives, their freedom, and what they’d given up. This is their story.
Timeless Americana: The art, by Vinsensius Suriantoso, captures a nostalgic, sepia-toned world where drive-in theaters flicker, and mobile home parks fade into memory. It’s as much about a disappearing America as it is about two dogs.
For Dog Lovers and Comics Aficionados Alike: A meditation on freedom, family, and hard truths.
