Comments: This comic book is presented in prose form rather than traditional comic panels. The story follows Shawn and Joe as they are on the run while being stalked by Esteban. Esteban is illustrated as a fit woman with a street-tough look, and the writing reinforces that she is someone you do not want to mess with. Eventually, Esteban catches up with the two and engages them in battle.
As the story progresses, it becomes a bit difficult to follow and begins to drag. The narrative touches on themes involving clones, wealthy men controlling others, and the idea that a few lives can be sacrificed to help many, or simply to make money. These are interesting concepts, but they are not explored deeply enough to make the situation fully clear.
We also get a brief glimpse of Nikki, who appears to be undergoing experimentation. This moment hints at a larger story, but it feels more like a teaser than a developed plot point.
The art, however, looks amazing. The characters stand out on the page, and Esteban in particular is gorgeously illustrated. She has a presence that instantly communicates strength and danger.
Learning more about the mysterious organization manipulating events would greatly improve the story. More background on the characters we encounter, their motivations, their history, and their role in the bigger picture would help readers connect with what is happening. As it stands, the story ends too quickly and feels like it doesn’t do enough with the ideas it introduces.
The second story shifts gears and focuses on the making of the comic and the people involved in its creation. This section is interesting and gives readers a behind-the-scenes look at the process. It highlights that making a comic book is not easy, but it is clearly driven by a love of creating something special.
