Comments: Carl Cranem is one tough, mean racer. He works for Glorianna Flux, and together they are dominating the Racer X circuit. Speed Racer needs something to help him defeat Cranem, but at what cost? He is willing to risk everything. Speed and his Pops decide to settle an argument on the track, putting driving experience against youthful determination. In the end, the Racer family comes out on top. Speed keeps his word as well, showing that he is a good and decent man. It all leads to Speed versus Cranem, round two. This race is a battle of power versus skill. The Mach 5 goes up against the G.R.X. Supercar. While the cars play a role, this is really about the drivers. Speed follows the wisdom passed down from his Pops, while Cranem relies on his own instincts. The race between them is filled with excitement. It feels as though the cars are on the verge of bursting with energy. Cranem loved his father just as Speed does. That love and passion drive him, but also blind him to everything else. Deep down, he is a good person, which makes it all the more tragic how things unfold for him. The artwork captures the speed and intensity of the race cars effectively. The characters are well illustrated, with each one conveying clear emotion. Their expressions and actions make it easy to distinguish between hero and antagonist. This issue also highlights the emotional bond between father and son. Speed and Pops are now on the same page, working together, and their love for each other comes through strongly.
