Comments: Briar Rose wants nothing more than to die, blaming herself for all the suffering her friends have endured. Just as she is about to expire, however, she suddenly changes her mind, creating an unexpectedly funny and human moment that breaks the tension in an effective way.
Meanwhile, in Hell, Roop and Captain Bly are reunited. Together, they bring something into Hell that does not belong there, something entirely unexpected. Roop, in particular, makes quite an impression on Hell’s denizens, delivering a surprising development readers likely won’t see coming.
Back in the mortal realm, Briar Rose prepares to confront Grendrid within her castle. She and her three companions quickly realize that what they truly need is an army, and that’s when Roop arrives, leading one of his own.
This issue also highlights the emotional core of the story, as Briar Rose and Spider openly show their love for one another. Their bond becomes a source of strength, giving them the resolve to continue fighting despite overwhelming odds.
Roop the wytch has clearly grown since his first appearance, evolving into a more confident and capable figure, while Captain Bly stands ready for battle. Both characters feel far more developed than when readers first met them.
One element that feels slightly out of place is Briar Rose’s visual portrayal. Given her role and emotional position in the story, a more traditionally feminine depiction might better match the tone. Presenting her as strongly tomboyish, at times even boyish in appearance, creates a disconnect with the character’s current narrative portrayal.
