Desperado Books Revives The Industry-Defining Anthology
January 6th, 2025, (LOS ANGELES, CA) — Desperado Books and series curator Joe Pruett are proud to announce the long-anticipated return of Negative Burn exclusively on the Zoop crowdfunding platform. The groundbreaking, award-nominated comic anthology that carved its legacy by refusing to be defined by genre, expectation, or convention is back for a whole new generation of comic fans to discover!
First launched in 1993, Negative Burn became a creative proving ground where legends and emerging voices collided: an experimental, creator-driven laboratory that challenged norms and pushed the medium forward. This all-new edition continues that legacy with a powerhouse roster including Mike Allred, Marguerite Bennett, Brian Bolland, Mike Carey, J.M. DeMatteis, Francesco Francavilla, Phil Hester, Joe Jusko, Sam Kieth, Joe Linsner, Ron Marz, Peter Milligan, Steve Niles, Dan Panosian, Paul Pope, Joe Pruett, James Robinson, Declan Shalvey, Dalibor Talajic, and others.
Preserving the anthology’s core philosophy: limitless creativity and zero boundaries, the revival features original, never-before-seen stories created exclusively for this edition. For collectors, the campaign will also offer extremely limited premium metal variant editions, as well as other exclusives available only through Zoop.
“I have always said that NEGATIVE BURN made my career,” says Pruett. “I have a lot of love for this title, as do so many of the creators involved, and I am confident that this will be the best volume of this series ever produced. And, that’s saying a lot from a multiple Eisner Award nominated series. I’m excited for you to see this book. It’s going to be great!”
Covers featuring artwork by Sam Kieth, Joe Linsner, Juan Doe and Dan Panosian have been revealed, with a highly anticipated Francesco Francavilla cover set to debut exclusively on Zoop. There will also be an exclusive cover by Joe Jusko that will have extremely limited availability to the first 48 hours of the campaign, never to be released again!
Across its original run, Negative Burn earned multiple Eisner, Harvey, Gem, and Eagle Award nominations, including recognition for Best Anthology, Best Editor, Best Short Story, Top 10 Trade Paperback, and Favorite Reprint Compilation. Its long history is defined by bold storytelling, fearless experimentation, and an unwavering commitment to showcasing both established visionaries and rising talent.
Fans are encouraged to support the campaign early, helping unlock stretch goals, and other exclusive items to be made available throughout the campaign. Negative Burn is back and ready to demolish expectations and defy genre.
