Comic Book Cats, number 152: Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #9, written & drawn by Jim Lawson and lettered by Eric Talbot, published by Mirage Studios in March 2005.
“The Path” is a very sad story in which the Turtles’ pet cat Klunk is hit by a car, and Michelangelo must learn to accept that there is nothing he can do to save his life. At the end of the story, the Turtles discover that the stray cat in the alley outside was Klunk’s girlfriend, and she has given birth to his kittens, ensuring that he lives on through them.
Jim Lawson did an amazing job on this highly emotional story. Lawson was a regular creative presence on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles from 1987 until 2009. He has also drawn the series Paleo: Tales of the Late Cretaceous, Planet Racers, Dragonfly, and Hellride.
