PORTLAND, Ore. 10/22/2026 — The upcoming all-star anthology comic Exquisite Corpses: Book of the Dead will unveil the terrifying origins of the grisly killers from bestselling hit series Exquisite Corpses Season 1. The extra-length one-shot comic, hitting shelves in January 2027 from Image Comics and James Tynion IV’s production house Tiny Onion. It will feature a murderers’ row of writers and artists and follows the launch of three Exquisite Corpses spin-off miniseries, each about one of a trio of favorite killers from the bloody first season (Rascal Randy, Fox Mask Killer, and Lone Gunman).

Exquisite Corpses: Book of the Dead features stories written not only by series co-creators, Eisner award-winning horror masterminds James Tynion IV (The Department of Truth, Something is Killing the Children) and Michael Walsh (The Silver Coin), but also by Jordie Bellaire (Redlands, The Nice House), Marguerite Bennett (Odin, Witchblade), Patrick Horvath (Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees), Alyssa Wong (Star Wars: Doctor Aphra), Steve Orlando (Scarlet Witch), Josh Trujillo (Blue Beetle), Soo Lee (Carmilla), Victor Lavalle (The Changeling), and Losty (The Last Scarecrow).

The top-tier writers will be joined by popular artists David Lafuente (Radiant Red: Crime & Punishment), Piotr Kowalski (Let This One Be a Devil), Lauren Knight (Golden Rage), Claire Roe (Bury the Lede), Alexandre Tefenkgi (The Good Asian), Lisandro Estherren (Be Not Afraid), Brian Level (Mad Science Division), Francesca Ciregia (Hellraiser: Resurrections), and Ryan Quackenbush (Junior Baker The Righteous Faker).

The issue will also feature a darkly gorgeous main cover and surprise polybagged variant by Walsh as well as variant covers by A-list artists such as Brian Level, Ito, Federico Mele, and Tula Lotay. The polybagged variant will have a collectible trading card tied to Exquisite Corpses: The Game.

Now readers will discover the backstories of the other infamous assassins while also getting a scary sneak peek at one of the new killers from the upcoming Season 2.

“The fun part of Exquisite Corpses was coming up with all these gruesome killers and then murdering them in terrible, terrible ways,” said Tynion. “But the hard part was saying goodbye to them so quickly. This anthology is our last chance to celebrate the maniacs and mercenaries of Season One before we introduce the world to a whole new cast of their favorite serial killers.”

In the first season of Exquisite Corpses, twelve of the deadliest killers in the world entered Oak Valley on Halloween night. But only one would survive to see the dawn. For the rest, their stories ended in decapitation, conflagration, or even more ignoble defeats. But now, thanks to overwhelming demand, creators from across the horror spectrum have assembled to reveal the never-before-seen origins of Exquisite Corpses’ cast of assassins, mercenaries, and madmen! Discover the Congregation’s unholy mission, the spark behind Layla Blaze’s scars, Lady Carolina’s first hunt, and more in this extra-sized, blood-soaked issue.

“Something we discovered immediately when the series launched is that every killer generated a following—even the ones who died early on in the series,” said Steve Foxe, Senior Story Editor at Tiny Onion. “With the Book of the Dead, we finally get to tell their tales. This anthology also gave us the opportunity to invite some of our absolute favorite creators in horror to the arena to see what they might do with the killers we know and love (or love to hate).”

Exquisite Corpses was the biggest original IP comic hit of 2025; over 700k issues have been sold to date in collaboration with publishing partner Image Comics, marking the best debut comic for Tynion in over three years. A feature film adaptation of Exquisite Corpses is in development with Tiny Onion and Lyrical Media, and the recently launched Exquisite Corpses: The Game was 400% funded on Kickstarter with the deck still available for late pledges.
