YASHIROJIMA: THE FOREST OF LOST DREAMS

Kaeru Utagawa’s Haunting Manga Debut Wanders Through Past Lives, Japanese History, and a Forest Filled With Spirits

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

AUG. 19, 2026 (PORTLAND, OR) — Some dreams disappear when you wake up. Others have been waiting centuries to be remembered.

Mad Cave StudiosNakama Press imprint presents YASHIROJIMA: THE FOREST OF LOST DREAMS, the debut long-form manga from emerging mangaka Kaeru Utagawa, with lettering by Book Buddy Media. Blending Japanese folklore, reincarnation, historical fiction, and intimate character drama, the 216-page story follows one sleeping boy through the lives that came before him and the spirits his dreams awaken along the way.

Deep in the heart of the forest, a young boy named Yuta sleeps, drifting through dreams of past lives and countless reincarnations. Through these visions, he glimpses pivotal moments from Japanese history—yet his dreaming also stirs the spirits and demons that linger among the trees.

Originally published in French by Vega-Dupuis, Yashirojima: The Forest of Lost Dreams marks Utagawa’s debut in long-form graphic storytelling. The Nakama Press edition also represents Utagawa’s first publication outside Europe and Japan.

Utagawa is an emerging mangaka whose work blends Japanese folklore, historical imagination, and intimate character drama. Utagawa’s delicate linework and evocative visual sense draw from classical myth and contemporary fantasy, building a narrative that feels both timeless and dreamlike.

Part historical journey, part supernatural dreamscape, Yashirojima: The Forest of Lost Dreams moves between Japanese history and folklore through a deeply personal story of memory, reincarnation, and the unseen forces that linger across generations.

Yashirojima: The Forest of Lost Dreams goes on sale December 15, 2026, in paperback (ISBN: 9781545832882 | $10.99). Order through your local comic shop, bookstore, or at nakamapress.com.
