Will Allred talks about DIARY OF NIGHT

Will Allred joined a collective of 5 Kickstarter campaigns with 5 independent creators banding together to launch on the same day (or within a few days of each other). Their goal is to help promote each other’s campaigns and support each other during the long days of a Kickstarter campaign. Will is launching Diary of Night and he stopped by First Comics News to let our readers know all about the Diary of Night.

First Comics News: Is this a hardcover version of Diary of Night Vol. 1: Distant Thunder?

Will Allred: This is for a special, one-of-a-kind, Diary of Night Volume 1 softcover with a handwritten, 100-word diary entry inside. Backers will also receive a digital collection of all 100 diary entries.

1st: What is Diary of Night about?

Will: It’s about Catherine Morrison, a 900-year-old vampire who walks the line between humans and vampires, protecting her people from the worst of humanity, and humanity from the worst of her people.

1st: Who is Catherine Morrison?

Will: She is a very old vampire that strives to help both vampires and humans.

1st: How does she protect humans?

Will: She tries to protect both humans and vampires by giving vampires a community in which to feel safe so they can just live their lives.

1st: Is she sort of like the X-Men, in that she protects humans who fear her?

Will: Actually, that’s not too far off. Catherine is really trying to make the world a better place and protect her people.

1st: What are vampires like in the world of Diary of Night?

Will: They’re really just normal people who happen to be afflicted with a very rare condition.

1st: What is the Phoenix Foundation?

Will: Catherine established the Phoenix Foundation to help vampires. It provides safe places for them, helps them, and gives them a place to belong.

1st: Why would vampires duel?

Will: Vampires would fight each other for the same reason that people fight each other. They just don’t like each other, bad decisions that escalate, revenge…the list is endless.

1st: Who is Anne Lawson?

Will: Anne Lawson is Catherine’s assistant and bodyguard.

1st: Who is Tim?

Will: Tim is a relatively new vampire that is having problems adjusting to his new life, and Catherine has been trying to mentor him and help him overcome his problems.

1st: Who is Arthur?

Will: Arthur is the brutal vampire that inadvertently made Catherine a vampire over 900 years ago.

1st: Why is Michael hunting her?

Will: Michael is a self-styled vampire hunter who has been pointed at Catherine.

1st: Who is Tom Wells?

Will: He’s a young vampire who is something of a social climber.

1st: Why is he after Catherine?

Will: Spoilers.

1st: What is the minimum pledge for a digital copy?

Will: $5 will get you the digital collection of the 100 diary entries, while $15 will get you a digital copy of Diary of Night Volume 1.

1st: What is the minimum pledge for a print copy?

Will: $25 gets you a copy of Diary of Night Volume 1, and it also includes the digital collection of the 100 diary and a digital copy of Diary of Night Volume 1.

1st: What rewards do you have planned?

Will: There is a hardcover available, reward level that includes a copy of Diary of Night Volume 1 and other published work.

1st: What does the multi-launch do to enhance Diary of Night?

Will: Launching a project at the same time as other creators is a way for us independent creators to have each other’s backs. We can help each other promote each other’s projects and generally act as support for each other. Creating comics can be a lonely road, so this is us traveling together for a bit down that road and doing what we can to support each other.

1st: For any readers still on the fence, what makes the Diary of Night so cool no true comic fan should miss it?

Will: Diary of Night has a phenomenal art team. Gene Gonzales is an amazing storyteller, and Rus Wooton is a lettering and design superstar. I like to think that it’s a compelling story with beautiful art, and the softcover and hardcover are, excuse my obvious bias, beautiful books.
