Artist Kevin Sacco, who garnered acclaim for his first period graphic novel The Plane Story and his recent silent, civil rights era Josephine, bring another period tale; White Knight. Set in the advertising world in 1960 Manhattan, White Knight tells the story of Zeppo Abandando, an advertising copyrighter searching for his EUREKA moment. White Night tells the story of this search, and in the process, Sacco reveals a loving portrait of Zeppo’s world-at home, on Madison avenue, and at Harold’s Showspot, his favorite bar.

Part fiction, part memoir, White Night pays homage to Sacco’s real life father, Joe Sacco, telling the story, and through his pitch perfect drawings, Zeppo’s search for an aha moment takes on a grander, warmly humanistic meaning.

My father believed in the “Eureka.” explained Sacco, defining it as “The moment arrived at after copious research and brainstorming. This story is my guess about one of his “eureka” moments. I’ve changed his name in this story to Zeppo Abandando to pay homage to the protagonist of his never published novel“ two cents cheaper. Readers of a certain age will recognize the ad campaign that Sacco’s father was working on.

White Knight is already receiving praise from all corners of the comic book industry. Jules Feiffer said

” I watched this book ,in multiple stages grow and grow, until it blossomed into this moving tribute to a father’s love for family, for his son, and for work, hard, inventive work that he loved, and that made his family—and Kevin Sacco’s life—grow, as this book has, into something very special. ”

White Knight is a 88 page black and white graphic novel from SLG Publishing. Set for an October 2019 release, White Knight will have a $11.95 cover price and will be available at select comic book shops and through Amazon.com. It’s ISBN # is 978-1-59362-293-0
