TODD McFARLANE AND J. SCOTT CAMPBELL FINALLY BRING THEIR LONG-TEASED COLLABORATION TO LIFE

The long-awaited collaboration begins with six Artist Exclusive variants for The Scorched #52 issue.

Tempe, Ariz. 07/14/2026 – After years of conversations, teases, and fan anticipation, Todd McFarlane and J. Scott Campbell are officially unveiling the collaboration fans have been waiting years to see with an exclusive collection of covers for The Scorched #52, marking the first collaboration by both creators in the Spawn Universe.

First announced during New York Comic Con 2025, the collaboration transforms years of discussions between two of comics’ most influential artists into a collectible event for fans. More than a series of exclusive covers, the collection showcases two artistic interpretations of the same vision, giving fans a rare opportunity to experience the unmistakable styles of both McFarlane and Campbell side by side.

McFarlane’s editions feature J. Scott Campbell’s original sketches brought to life through McFarlane’s unmistakable inks, while Campbell’s editions showcase his artwork completed entirely in his own pencils and inks. Color editions throughout the collection are done by acclaimed colorist Sabine Rich, while a special McFarlane x Campbell ‘Green’ sketch variant combines Campbell’s layouts with McFarlane’s signature inks into a true collaboration between the two legendary creators.

“Having known Scott since the dawning days of the formation of Image Comics, when he was part of the young group at Jim Lee’s WildStorm, it’s been so cool to first see his Danger Girl comic and now, decades later, see Scott become one of the topflight cover artists in our industry,” said McFarlane. “We’ve been talking about doing a second collaboration since the record-setting Spawn #300. Scott sent me some sketches years ago for those #300 covers and ultimately changed them, but I never forgot those sketches. This book we’re now doing is one example of the hidden gems that the public didn’t get a chance to see from Scott before.”

The collaboration begins with six exclusive covers for The Scorched #52. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase the Artist Exclusive variants from both creators, along with an exclusive dual-signature McFarlane x Campbell variant available only as part of the collection.

“That teenager in me who used to go to the comic book shop every Wednesday to pick up the latest issue of Spider-Man by Todd, and later on Spawn, is pinching himself to be in a timeline where Todd and I are now collaborating on a shared project like this!

I’m happy that this sketch of mine, which Todd fell in love with years ago, can finally become a fully realized cover! And not just realized by me, but to be getting both Todd’s and my unique takes on the same rough starting sketch, I think that’s a really unique and exciting treat for the fans!” – J. Scott

Available exclusively through jscottcampbell.com, the collection launches Saturday, July 18 at 9 am Pacific Time. Fans are encouraged to join the waiting list and mailing list ahead of the launch to receive updates, cover reveals, and ordering information before the collection goes live.
