TIM CHIZMAR in A VALLEY OF LIGHT AND SHADOW

THIS “NEON BASTARD” IS IN A NEW BOOK!!

As my readers know I’m #1. a NERD and #2 (speaking of number two…) I can be a BASTARD.

I channeled both in my revealing essay recently published in the latest book, A VALLEY OF LIGHT AND SHADOW by HUNTINGTON PRESS put together by Las Vegas Writes

Since 2009, Nevada Humanities has commissioned writers for the Las Vegas Writes anthology to develop original works addressing a theme connected to Las Vegas. These works are compiled into a book-length volume of stories, essays, and poetry called Las Vegas Writes. The first four volumes were published by Stephens Press, and Las Vegas Writes is currently published by Huntington Press. Nevada Humanities hosts a book launch event every year at the Las Vegas Book Festival with readings and conversations moderated by the book’s editors. Las Vegas Writes authors are also featured in readings and events throughout the state. Las Vegas Writes is published annually by Nevada Humanities. Current and past editions of Las Vegas Writes are sold by booksellers online and throughout the state or at the Nevada Humanities offices in Reno and Las Vegas. Nevada Humanities collaborates with the Las Vegas Book Festival and the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District to produce Las Vegas Writes.

A Valley of Light and Shadow: Las Vegas Writers on Good and Evil
Las Vegas Writes, Volume 11

Las Vegas Writes is an annual collection of writings by local authors focused on a theme connected to Las Vegas. This year’s theme is stark: In Sin City, what does it mean to be sinful? And how much do we concede in order to see ourselves as “good?” Las Vegas Writes is a program of Nevada Humanities and is a featured project in collaboration with Las Vegas Book Festival, published by Huntington Press.

A Valley of Light and Shadow walks the thin neon line between salvation and damnation.

Surrounded by cannabis dispensaries and slot machines, these Las Vegas writers find their sense of right and wrong unmoored. Some reach a realization that their earlier moral lines were naively drawn. Others come to terms with the notion that Las Vegas is where good people go to submit to vice or where bad people land, hoping for a second chance. And some celebrate the best parts of Las Vegas, where good people can achieve great things.

In this 11th volume of the annual Las Vegas Writes anthology, 14 local writers share their deepest and most tantalizing stories about surviving in shadow and thriving in light, crafting an enduring message for the future.

Featured authors: Keith Brantley, Brittany Bronson, Tim Chizmar, Laura Decker, Krista Diamond, Fawn Douglas, Eric Duran-Valle, Samantha Goodman, Don Hall, Dana Jerman, Glenn Puitt, Elizabeth Quiñones-Zaldaña, and Beth Rosenberg.
