THE LAB PRESS LAUNCHES NEW PORTABLE EDITIONS OF THEIR ACCLAIMED TITLES, INCLUDING SUPER SCIENCE VOLUME 1.

These easy-to-carry volumes allow readers to enjoy original graphic novels on the go while maintaining The Lab’s commitment to quality and their signature design aesthetics.

LOS ANGELES, October 30, 2026 – As The Lab Press approaches the end of its second year of publishing following a string of award wins for their debut titles, the acclaimed indie graphic novel publisher debuts a range of new compact editions featuring some of their key titles. Designed to appeal to readers who prefer to enjoy their books on the go, these new versions–dubbed Portable Editions–build on The Lab’s ongoing commitment to getting books into people’s hands without compromising on quality or design.

The first three books to receive the Portable Editions treatment are all from The Lab’s first year of publishing–starting with Super Science Volume 1 by N. Alessandro K. and M.K. Perker; Creatures & Corridors by Brandon Auman and Andrea Mutti; and Essentials Volume 1 by Luke Arnold, Chris ‘Doc’ Wyatt, and a vast array of talented artists. Each of these titles has been critically acclaimed and honored with various accolades for story, art, and design, including wins at the prestigious IPPY Awards, Storytrade Awards, Foreword INDIES Awards, and the Independent Book Publishers Association Awards.

In the pages of Super Science Volume 1, a mysterious catalyst has caused the sky to turn amethyst for five days. Across the globe, scientists, engineers, and amateurs alike begin achieving impossible breakthroughs, and ordinary people become capable of extraordinary inventions, reshaping the world in ways no one could predict or control. Sergeant Esmerelda Villanueva and her rookie partner Jack Mantle are tasked with containing a steady stream of incidents involving rogue technology, unstable experiments, and individuals who have pushed science far beyond its limits. But as cases escalate and the line between innovation and danger disappears, it becomes clear that this new world isn’t just chaotic—it’s evolving. An original graphic novel blending science fiction, superhero storytelling, and police procedural drama with sharp humor and grounded characters, Super Science explores what happens when discovery outpaces responsibility.

“Super Science Volume 2 arrives in early 2027, so this is the perfect moment to discover, or rediscover, where it all started, in an edition you can carry in your pocket,” says creator and writer, N. Alessandro K. “Science is accelerating at a pace faster than we are. To sit and read a book has somehow become a radical act.”

The LAB Press is, of course, committed to continuing its award-winning line of high-quality hardcover graphic novels, which they have become known for, and 2027 will see more of those–including the long-awaited release of the aforementioned Super Science Volume 2, as well as other top-secret titles yet to be announced.

“Our hardcovers are built to be collected, while the Portable Editions are built to be carried,” says Dagen Walker, Editor-in-Chief of The Lab Press. “Same full stories, same art, but in a size you can put in your bag and read on the train.”

The first wave of Portable Editions from The Lab Press is available in book and comic shops now, allowing readers to discover (or rediscover) the magic of Essentials Volume 1, Super Science Volume 1, and Creatures & Corridors. Further waves of titles will follow next year with a view to allowing everyone to discover the audacious storytelling The Lab Press has become known for in a format that suits them.
