Gambit, Remy LeBeau was abandoned at birth out of fear of his red eyes. He was kidnapped from his hospital room in New Orleans by the Thieves’’ Guild. The guild believed he was a child of prophecy, the “Le Diable Blanc”. By prophecy, he was to unite the warring guilds. He was raised in the streets of New Orleans and taught the ways of thievery. While attempting to pickpocket Jean-Luc LeBeau he was discovered. Jean-Luc LeBeau was the head of the Thieves’ Guild. He ended up adopting Remy. To broker the peace prophecy Remy was betrothed to Bella Donna Boudreaux, the granddaughter of the head of the Assassin’s Guild. Bella Donna’s brother objected to the marriage and challenged Remy to a duel. Remy won the duel killing the brother but was banished for the death.

Remy traveled the world becoming a master thief and gambler. He mastering his mutant power to harness kinetic energy. Remy came across Mr. Sinister who surgically altered Remy’s brain to give him greater control of his mutant abilities. Remy assembled the Marauders for Mr. Sinister but the two split over Mr. Sinister’s use of the Marauders to kill the Morlocks.
