- New Shows And New Hosts Join With Existing Favorites
- Lloyd Smith And Blue Moon Comics Sign Up With The Network
- Airship 27 Launches “Test Flights”
Silverline Comics publisher and EIC Roland Mann has announced the launch of the Silverline Comics Media Network. Starting on September 6, the network will unite all of the company’s various podcasts under one banner.
“This will make it easier for everyone to find our shows and see what we’re doing,” Mann said. “Collecting the shows under the same network gives us a stronger independent forum, especially in the indie comics world.”
Silverline’s three core shows will join the new network. They will remain at their established times: “Silver Sunday” will be on Sundays at 8pmE/5pmP; “A Silverline Show on Tuesday” will be Tuesdays at 11pmE/8pmP; and “Wednesday Wham” at 9pmE/6pmP on Wednesdays.
“We are also adding new shows,” Mann said. “One of the first will be hosted by Lloyd Smith, the founder of Blue Moon Comics. We had him on the Sunday show recently, and he’s a terrific advocate for indie comics, with a real enthusiasm for making comics, and is just a natural, lively host.” Smith brings with him a lot of talented artists and writers looking forward to talking about their work.
Also debuting will be a new show by artist Jose Fuentes who’s developing a weekly live-draw. Fuentes is a Kubert School grad whose comic book work includes “The Obsoletes” mini-series, inker on “Cat &Mouse: Vipers” for Silverline, and inker/colorist on “Hammer Killer” for Pickle Press.
“My goal is to show off Silverline characters and their creators,” Fuentes said. “We’ll talk, draw, and dig into the creative process with writers and artists.”
Further, the creators of Airship 27 – Ron Fortier and Rob Davis – will be adding their Airship 27 shows to the network. “We have a library of 105 shows so far,” Davis said. “They’ll be available to viewers on the channel.” Airship 27 is a publisher that specializes in “Pulp Fiction For A New Generation” with projects like “Brother Bones The Undead Avenger,” “Radio Rita,” and “Captain Hazzard.”
According to co-creator Fortier, “Airship 27 was created to update the fast-paced, action-oriented storytelling of the pulps to attract new younger readers.”
Airship 27 will also launch a new series on the network. “We’re creating short bits called Test Flights,” Davis said. “Chapters from our books will be read by the authors and accompanied by illustrations from their books.”
“There are things I’ve wanted to do to grow our livestream audience and increase our reach,” Mann said. “This is the next step in our evolution, and being truly independent gives us this new opportunity.”
Guests will remain a strong part of the network’s shows. Previous guests have included established comic names such as Matt Wagner, Jimmy Palmiotti, Maggie Thompson, former DC editor Jim Chadwick, Kelley Jones, Denys Cowan, Clover Press publisher Hank Kanalz, Die Bold publisher John Holland, Paul Pelletier, actor Gabriel Rodriguez (aka “G-Rod”), and Steven Butler.
Upcoming guests on the Silverline Sunday podcast will include Tom Mason talking about his new book on Marvel’s “Secret Wars,” and Ray-Anthony Height, founder of Studio Skye Tiger Comics.
“When I started Silverline Comics, it was because I like making comics with my friends,” Mann said. “This is a continuation of that.” Mann’s long history of making comics kicked into high gear as an editor for Malibu Comics’ Ultraverse titles and later for Marvel Comics.
The first Silverline podcast originated during Covid lockdowns. “We couldn’t go anywhere, so we just started meeting online to talk about comics, movies, and more,” Mann said. “We were having such a good time, that we wanted more folks to join us, and before you could say ‘indie comics’ we had a podcast.” The company quickly expanded.
The Silverline Comics Media Network will continue to stream to YouTube, Facebook, and X (Twitter). Other platforms are expected in the near term. “On the combined platforms, we have more than 5000 unique viewers,” Mann said. “We can only get bigger from here.”
