Comments: The First Guard is shown in a training session. They do work together well enough when the Fighting Yank takes charge. Then we get a brief tour of Liberty Plaza. The team gets a call to go on a rescue mission.
The females on the team are drawn with manly looking faces. Even their bodies are not illustrated to show their famine side. You have to look twice to know they are women. The men are well enough, but they are mostly standing around. The women showering is somewhat interesting, with soap covering specific parts. Their talk could be more exciting, as it is just about putting down the Fighting Yank and insulting him.
The team journeys to the past, 1963. The repartee among the team is fun; you feel the camaraderie. These are teammates and also friends.
Now the story takes an almost unexpected turn, and the First Guard will be facing a foe they never thought they would.
The team of superheroes in the past looks way better than the ones from the present. The pin-up style pose is well done. The book, though, does not have an action pose using the team’s other than a little in the training session.
A little more of an introduction to the characters would have been nice. This issue is setting up nicely for a coming battle.
