Comments: Speed Racer faces Mark Megaton. It takes Speed a bit to catch on to how to react to him. This is a fast-paced race, and a lot is at stake. It is literally a matter of life or death.

Speed comes out of this race with an attitude. Something is off with him.

Racer X is working with the police to stop an enhancement drug called V-Gas from spreading through the streets. He is drawn well in his racing outfit.

As Speed races, he is out for blood. His blood is boiling, and he has become a ruthless driver. It is easy to see that his personality has changed.

The Mach 5 is a thing of beauty, brought to life by the artwork. The other vehicles are exciting to see as well. The illustrations showcase cars built for speed, with something extra that makes each one stand out.

This issue needed more substance. We learn next to nothing about the villain, Mark Megaton.

We only get a glimpse of Racer X, but he needed to be in the story more, as it appears he will be playing a major role in Speed’s life going forward.

The issue lacked the fast-paced excitement of previous installments and the high-octane energy readers have come to expect from Speed Racer.
