Comments: Sgt. Flag heads to the San Diego Superhero Con, where he’s scheduled to appear on a panel. In his own rough-edged way, he gets along with his fellow heroes, though he does quote “The Rock” quite a bit. Alongside Johnny Sol and Zima, the three give short talks on the subject of excessive force and how, at times, being a superhero can make it seem necessary.
Tina the Tiny Tick certainly knows how to make an entrance, crashing the event with an attack. Sgt. Flag immediately throws himself into battle, taking on the massive bear as their fight tears through the convention floor. Along the way, readers are treated to appearances from countless guest superheroes created by other companies and creators. Most are brief cameos, but that works well since they serve as a colorful background to the chaos.
Sgt. Flag clearly enjoys a good fight, and it’s entertaining to watch him charge headfirst into action. With some help, he manages to bring down the villain while also putting one arrogant, power-hungry fool in his place. Flag is portrayed exactly as he should be—tough, relentless, and always ready to throw down.
The artwork is spot-on, giving each character personality while making the battle scenes feel energetic and intense.
This issue captures the fun of a superhero convention, right down to celebrating afterward with friends over drinks. In the end, it feels like an old-school comic story: heroes hanging out, a villain attacks, and then all hell breaks loose.
