Comments: Humanity is shown for what it has accomplished—and how it has treated the planet. Now it is time to pay for that.
Elsam is an alien being sent to eliminate metahumans on Earth so the planet will be ready for alien invasion and conquest. The conquering aliens move fast, meeting little resistance, with only a few exceptions. The art showcases the invasion process beautifully—you see the ships arrive and land, establishing an immediate sense of scale and menace.
Elsam has been augmented to deal with any metahumans who put up resistance. Sunn and Tristar, two metahumans, are the first to attack Elsam, and he clearly knows what he is doing once the battle begins. Monacho, another metahuman, is also on Elsam’s radar.
Elsam is presented as both hero and villain. He is drawn in a well-designed suit packed with built-in weapons, ready to carry out his duty to his people and to use the planet and its resources “productively.” From the aliens’ perspective, the planet was being wasted—now they are changing that. The humans, especially the metahumans, fight back. They are fighting for their home. Both the aliens and the humans believe they are right—and in their own ways, they are. As they interact, it will be interesting to see whether Elsam’s views begin to change.
One compelling aspect of Elsam is that he comes across as an average Joe. He is just a working guy trying to do better and start a new life with the one he loves.
The story leaves you wanting to know more about all the players involved. Elsam is clearly the central character, and he is one you will want to keep watching.
