Comments: Grips pulls no punches; once the violence starts, it becomes an all-out bloodbath. The character revels in it, taking a disturbing level of satisfaction in the bloodshed he causes. He’s not just a vigilante; he’s clearly unhinged, pushing far past any moral line.
The violence is deliberately over the top, and the artwork leans into that brutality. Blood splattering across panels is a particularly effective visual touch, reinforcing just how chaotic and dangerous Grips really is.
Despite his methods, Grips targets drug dealers and criminals, positioning himself as someone doing “good,” but the way he goes about it makes that claim questionable at best. His internal monologue dominates much of the issue, giving readers deep insight into his mindset, though at times it becomes overly wordy and slows the pacing.
What makes the character especially compelling is the contrast between his two sides. Out of costume, he appears to be an ordinary man trying to clean up the streets. But once he puts on the mask, he transforms into something far more dangerous—someone ready and willing to kill without hesitation.
The issue ends on a strong cliffhanger, leaving Grips in a situation where survival is far from guaranteed and pulling readers into the next chapter.
If you’re looking for subtlety, this isn’t it. But if you want a raw, violent dive into the mind of a deeply unstable vigilante, Grips delivers exactly that.
