Comments: Cecilia Slaughter is being humbled for her mistakes, while Maxine watches over the aging Dragon. A lot is happening within House Slaughter. With the old Dragon nearing death, the biggest question is who will take his place. Along the way, several smaller questions also demand answers.

Cecilia gets to work covering up the monster’s slaughter of several high school students.

The Great Dragon and his Violet Masks arrive at House Slaughter to oversee the selection of a new Dragon, one way or another. Maxine is given an important task, one that will ultimately help Cecilia. She plays a vital role in the events unfolding around her.

Meanwhile, Cecilia is out hunting a monster—or perhaps it is hunting her. This creature is unlike any monster seen in the various Slaughter series so far. The artwork does an excellent job of showcasing the creature, making it genuinely frightening.

The issue needed more story development and better use of its characters. Too often, characters seem to be standing around waiting for something to happen. The human figures are illustrated in a somewhat vague style that would have benefited from greater detail and more expressive emotions.

Both Cecilia and Maxine are portrayed as strong women within House Slaughter, yet neither is fully in control of her destiny. Cecilia wants to lead, while Maxine wants to follow her. Their relationship resembles that of a leader and a loyal servant, though Maxine still has a mind of her own and is willing to make her own choices.

With a deadly monster on the loose, the question remains: can House Slaughter contain it?
