Comments: “Wishes Granted” Coddie is a hardworking girl who is treated like a slave. Coddie thinks she is not beautiful yet she is illustrated as the most gorgeous woman in this book. Poor Coddie is mistreated by most. She is a nice girl and deserves to be treated better.
Coddie meets a fairy and a wish is granted. Mortals who look at her only see beauty. All the men in the village want her. All but Peter already liked her before and he is not influenced by her looks.
Coodie does find her Prince or he finds her and then she starts to change. Having others only see you for your beauty can make you see things differently. So Coddie becomes Beauty.
Mab is an evil little fairy and her whispers in Beauty’s ears help to make Beauty something she never was. So Coddie the scullion becomes Queen Beauty.
“The Indecisive Queen” The King does want to keep his Queen happy and if that means hiding things then so be it. The Queen’s personality gets worse as she basks in being Queen and her beauty. Her beauty is only in the eye of the beholder and not in her anymore.
This Queen Beauty has a war break out over her as two Kings fight to possess her. Out of this Beauty gets precisely what she deserved.
“Ordinary Mortals” So many have died because of Beauty’s beauty. The Boar King now has her while her daughter is with peasants. The devastation her beauty has caused is unthinkable.
Poor Beauty her life has spiraled downwards. Her life was a simple one at the start and then became so complicated and now it is a miserable existence. As happens so often in life especially if you want it to be enough things change.
Beauty becomes the Queen of her lands with no King. She makes changes and uses her curse to improve the kingdom. She became a gracious sovereign.
“Epilogue” Princess Marine, Queen Beauty’s daughter and rules fairly and treats others with respect and she lets her aging mother live out her days in peace.
The ending to this story seems to suggest beauty is in the eye of the beholder but it is presented in a way that leaves you unsure what the ending means.
The art is artistic in style and does present itself as classic. There is nudity and sexual situations so this is for a mature reader.
Coodie does live a life that was changed by one wish. One wish can change everything.
