Comments: “Hale Bopp.” An ancient organism is invaded and fights to rid itself of the invaders. This tree is floating through space and is huge. The invaders are small, yet they soon make an impact. The organism Hale Bopp does respond. It is an interesting story and one that captivates one’s interest. The art fits the story and shows the various organisms.
“The Oxpecker and the Elephant” Humans on an alien planet learn to survive with the natives. This story is told from taliens’ens point of view. With humans, as is usual, jealous humans come forth, and one thing leads to another er with the problem being solved.
“Pride of the Central Repub.lic” Two men go looking for artifacts. They find something different yet not dangerous. This story does show what could happen after a war. The robotic suits shown are a nice technology to see used here and in slightly different ways.
“A Portrait of the Artist as Hive Para.site” Humans are the mong Martians on Mars. One man lets his jealousy get the best of him to his regret. The Martians are illustrated well to show they come in a variety of looks.
“The Ansible” Opening up a door to let someone in can be good or bad. It all depends on who you let in. Letting in a computer program that was at war with humans, even though the war is over, may not be a good idea. The machinery here has a nice old-style look to it.
“The Anchoress,” A Junior Scribe is sent to a convent chasing a paper trail. A robot that worships God provides for the convert. The ending here is unclear. The scenery is drawn beautifully.
“Vanguard” The story starts well enough, but at the end makes no sense. Nicely designed aliens.
“Man in the Fifty-First Millennium.m” This is about a family of cavemen surviving and really nothing else. The black and white art with grey tones is not used well to show anything.
“The Chocolate Comic” A guy, his p,ig and chocolate, ate that’s it.
There are tons of sci-fi-based pin-ups in the back of this comic book.
This sci-fi anthology does have a lot of different aliens in it. Having the creator/writer/artist in it a well was a nice touch.
