Comments: 1946 Plymouth, Michigan, has Betty Jane Johnson dressing up. She comes from a loving family. Her dad was a great one. Everyone loved him. The emotions come through in the writing and art here.
Jane, we see that when someone she knows is in deadly danger moves to help. Yes, Jane is one strong girl. She is extra strong.
The story keeps going, and you can feel the sadness in the pages building. You know what is coming, yet you find yourself dreading it.
Jane finds working helps out her household, and the job is easy. She does encounter Asa Pits, a bully at work. Jane also makes a friend in Lorna.
When a big storm comes, Jane makes a choice.
Jane decides on her course of action. She has the support of her family. The love they have for each other is so strong you can feel it coming off the pages.
Now Jane sees a threat to others, and she reacts as a hero. Her inspiring others to stand up is her greatest power.
The story here does have a realism to it that makes the reader believe it could be true. Some parts one hopes are true, and others’ wishes were not.
The art throughout this book perfectly matches the story and fits the characters just as you want it to. The artist delivers a soft style that really holds your attention.
The ending to this story may not be what you are expecting, but it is the way this should end.
