RICH INTERVIEWS: Ron Charles William

First Comics News: How did you get into drawing?

Ron Charles Williams: I’ve been drawing since I was 6. My older brothers were into comics, and I got hooked on Fantastic Four. Jack Kirby’s artwork sparked an explosion of creativity within me.

1st: How does being an artist and writer of comic books enhance your life?

Ron: Drawing is like breathing for me. I always need to create. Otherwise, I can get a little irritable.

1stWho is Amphibia-Man?

Ron: Amphibia-man is Scott Phillips, a young amateur journalist and YouTuber who was severely injured in an accident. His parents were genetic scientists who worked for the Ternex Bio-Lab corporation. Scott’s father administered a DNA-altering serum to save his life. A serum that includes the regenerative characteristics of several Amphibian species.

Now possessing superhuman Amphibian powers, Scott uses his powers to protect those who protect themselves and seeks to stop the abuses of the powerful Ternex corporation.

1st: How did you come up with the costume design for Amphibia-Man?

Ron: I created Amphibia-Man partially as an homage to a character that my late brother and I created when we were kids.

1stHow do Steam Roller and Red Scorpion make good opponents for Amphibia-Man?

Ron: My idea for the villains was to give Amphibia-man a rogues gallery of villains, each distinctively different and could potentially be subjects of their own stories.

1st: Will you be creating more comics with Amphibia-Man?

Ron: I hope to do more Amphibia-man and Mercura stories through Gary Carlson’s Big Bang Adventures. It’s all a matter of when the ideas hit, timing, and scheduling.

1st: How did you find illustrating “Taranis the Thunderlord” for G-Man Comics?

Ron: Yes, Taranis is very fun to draw. It just requires a different mindset when drawing it. I’m channeling sword & sorcery, Conan, Thor, and Lord of the Rings when I draw it.

1stWhich drawing that you did in the past year are you most proud of?

Ron: It’s hard to say what my favorite work is from the last year. I tend to draw 2 or 3 different stories simultaneously. So a lot of it is a blur. However, the Vampire story for Big Bang Adventures was very artistically rewarding. It had to be drawn in a completely different, more simplified style. ( BBA #32)

1st: What will you be working on next?

Ron: I’m in the process of finishing First Guard #2, and a new Megaton story has just been finished.

1st: Which superpower would you like to have and how would you use it?

Ron: The only superpower I would want would be able to draw faster, without sleep. Lol.

1st: Would you like to say anything to your fans?

Ron: I have fans? Oh nice. Comics are supposed to be fun. I hope people enjoy what I do. Thanks.
