Bennett and Luis Rivera, with rich colors by Téo Pinheiro and letters by Bennett, this issue is an absolute powerhouse. It is packed to the brim with intense action, brilliant character interactions, dramatic plot twists, and a deep appreciation for comic history. This masterpiece firmly establishes itself as a must-read layout of indie greatness.

Bennett highlights his lifelong fandom for Thor and his friendship with creator Andrew W. Rowland, whose phenomenal character designs birthed the Demolition Squad, a fantastic, rough-and-ready group of construction-themed villainesses who now officially join Taranis’ rogue’s gallery. This passion shines through on every single page. The issue features a wonderful “Approved by the Old School Comiks Authority” stamp on the cover, perfectly setting the stage for a classic, superhero brawl.
The narrative, titled “Demolished!”, opens at 9:30 AM ET amid a disaster zone in New York City. The President of the United States, President Hamilton, is on-site touring the recovery effort and mingling with hardhat-wearing construction workers. Suddenly, structural instability triggers a massive collapse. Before tragedy can strike, a roaring voice echoes, “Fear not, mortals! The God of Thunder is here!”
Taranis, the Thunderlord, who was trapped in a stone statue for 800 years due to Dark Elf treachery, shatters the falling brick wall. The dialogue between Taranis and President Hamilton is a beautiful highlight of the issue. Taranis openly expresses his deep regret for the devastation his past arrogance has wrought, while President Hamilton respects a man willing to admit his wrongs and work to correct them. Hamilton notes that Taranis has joined the First Guard, thanking him before his Secret Service detail cuts the conversation short because the Atlantean Ambassador is demanding a meeting.
The peace is short-lived. Nearby, two construction workers named Frank and Jerry hear a strange noise behind a concrete wall. When they go to investigate, they are ambushed by the Demolition Squad! Led by Demolisher, the squad consists of Hardhat, Nitro, Cutting Torch, and Ballbreaker. Hearing a mortal scream of terror, Taranis leaps into the fray, only to find himself instantly targeted by these powerful women.
The ensuing battle is an absolute masterclass in superhero combat choreography. Taranis initially underestimates his foes, noting that their physical power rivals the gods of Avalorr. The Demolition Squad coordinates beautifully to keep the Thunder God off-balance. Hardhat delivers a punishing “RAM!” headbutt, Cutting Torch blasts him with plasma, and Nitro attempts to drain his energy.
The villains pile on, relentlessly beating Taranis into the dirt while shouting, “Burn, baby, burn!” However, Taranis unleashes the true power of the storm. He erupts with a massive localized electrical surge, proclaiming that none may touch the God of Thunder with impunity. Utilizing his mystic shield, Skyspanner, Taranis begins dismantling their offense. In a brilliant visual homage to Walt Simonson, Taranis catches Ballbreaker’s wrecking ball mid-swing and hurls it back, forcing Cutting Torch to duck as it shatters a wall. He then redirects Nitro’s explosive energy right back into her teammate, creating a massive BOOM that leaves the squad broken and incapacitated.
The climax of the fight brings a surprise twist. Just as Taranis stands victorious and launches into a grandiose, classic superhero victory speech, a massive, bald villain named Wide Load bursts through a wooden fence and blindsides Taranis with a brutal punch to the jaw, grunting, “You talk too much”. Wide Load quickly sizes up the situation, realizes Taranis “just kicked all ‘a yer asses,” and scoops up the defeated Demolition Squad members over his shoulders. Noting that there is no profit from inside a jail cell, Wide Load retreats into the alleyways, leaving an enraged Taranis to break free of the debris and curse the cowardly retreat of his foes.
Beyond the incredible action, Taranis #6 masterfully weaves in foundational subplots that promise major cosmic ramifications. The issue features a chilling “Interlude” where a cosmic, blue-skinned entity stalks an elderly man named Trust, forcefully stealing a mystical, glowing amulet from him. Despite the old man’s pleas that the artifact is meant to be used for good, the entity cold-bloodedly chokes him out, declaring that she will put his potential to better use.
The main story wraps up with Taranis reflecting on his new life on Earth. Though his heart aches to return to golden Avalorr, he realizes he cannot ignore his responsibilities to the Earth-realm, sensing a strange, mysterious connection that ties him to this world.
The “Epilogue” shifts gears to a street-level scene where a man named Ritchie Kilpatrick is forcefully thrown out of a venue and banned. As he vents his frustration, a mysterious, seductive blonde woman approaches him, tells him he is capable of much more, and ominously asks, “How do you feel about cosplay?” This sets up an incredibly exciting future, as the backmatter reveals that Taranis #7 (releasing August 2026) will feature the grand debut of a brand-new villain: The Mirror Man!
