Episode 08: “For Every Action”
Rating:
This week’s installment of “TD4R” features a more intense premise as Robin and Marvin travel to a dimension where Marvin gets bitten by a snake (is it poisonous or venomous?) and encounter Sean, who apparently had a relationship with the Robin in his world. Suddenly, they find themselves in a situation straight out of “Reservoir Dogs,” with Sean holding a duffel bag full of money, a gun, and a habit of dropping his pants. Out of nowhere, the three of them have guns drawn in a hilarious Mexican standoff. Honestly, most of this episode feels more like an unreleased episode of “Rick and Morty,” if it was envisioned by Quentin Tarantino and John Woo—yes, it’s that intense. After engaging in more of the silly elements from the past seven episodes, this installment really ramps up with the addition of guns, using the drama to elevate the humor significantly, showing how the show can adapt to any genre while still maintaining its comedy, which makes it more engaging. Sean, played by guest star Robert Douglass, fully embraces his character and delivers a powerful performance that highlights how the show utilizes its guest stars to their fullest potential. Douglass channels the spirit of Tom Sizemore and Michael Madsen in a way that makes his appearance particularly special. Be prepared to be blown away by his knowledge of Robin’s machine (apparently all Robins in every universe share the same password) and his deep understanding of the wave function for dark matter—think of it as an echo of the multiverse and how beings from other universes can feel each other’s effects via an inverse cube law into the fifth dimension, while quantum fields of one universe cannot interact with those of another.
This is clever, knowledgeable writing from Hies and Aponte, presented in a way that doesn’t talk down to viewers but keeps things simple. Honestly, I’d love to see the writers of “The Big Bang Theory” try to make that more witty and intelligent. With guns blazing and snake bites everywhere, this episode may have been over the top, but it sticks the landing by delivering the laughs—reminding us why “T4DR” makes science hilarious in every way.
Well, that’s it for me. Thanks for sticking around, and I look forward to seeing you all next time.
