This week, I review issue two of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Godzilla” from IDW Comics. King Ghidorah arrives in New York City! The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, led by Master Splinter, must stop the three-headed kaiju. Meanwhile, only Mechagodzilla defends Tokyo against Godzilla, Rodan, and Anguirus. The Turtles need to act fast to save New York and reach Japan. With his enemies busy, Shredder moves secretly toward gaining unlimited kaiju power.
Issue one was slow, but issue two gains momentum with more action and mythological elements. The turtles, with Master Splinter, meditate by touching Ghidorah, who plans to use this on Godzilla to make him an ally, which sounds crazy yet intriguing. Tim Seeley keeps it cohesive and adds flair, making the mystical side more engaging, especially with so many kaijus in action. In contrast, Shredder’s control over the kaijus and the appearance of Mechagodzilla heighten the tension, setting up a major battle. Fero Pe’s artwork is stunning, with a cartoonish style enhancing the monsters’ size and ferocity, honoring both franchises. Luis Antonia Delgado’s coloring highlights the vibrancy of NYC and Japan, adding a unique touch that showcases high standards. This issue more than compensates for the slow start, delivering intense action and advancing the story, making this crossover a standout that fans of both series will enjoy.
Well, that’s it for me. Thanks for sticking around, and I look forward to seeing you all next time.
