Let’s take a look at issue one of “Street Sharks” from IDW Publishing. This new series is a nostalgic continuation of the ’90s show, set right after the Bolton Brothers’ transformation. It keeps the series’ spirit alive with plenty of action-packed fighting, which fans will enjoy with a lot of excitement. However, the story uses the idea of destructive sharks as city guardians, which feels dated, but writer Stephanie Williams brings a fresh perspective that makes people wonder about the sharks and their presence. However, the story doesn’t spend much time on character development or fixing flaws from the original run, which is a shame because this series could be a great way to introduce new readers to the outlandish ideas from the 90s, like Street Sharks. Despite this, the series’ look is great, thanks to artist Ariel Medel and Valentina Pinto’s vibrant coloring. This series faces tough comparisons to other ‘90s revivals, but it delivers a lot of entertainment, even if the plot execution feels basic. Overall, Street Sharks is a great source of nostalgia for anyone looking to relive their childhood, and that’s not a bad thing.
