This week, I will review issue number six of “Sgt. Flag” from G-Man Comics.
The issue offers plenty of action along with a tender moment where Sgt. Flag visits Atomik Bombshell’s parents to ask for her hand in marriage. Still, he must confront his conflicting feelings about marriage before a local cult called the Locusts emerges, causing chaos from the explosive action sequence to Sgt. Flag learning more about his father, the story strikes a strong balance between high-stakes moments and heartfelt scenes, making it a compelling read. Rik Offenberger excels at conveying these powerful elements, demonstrating his love and respect for the G-Man characters. His storytelling reminds me of Mark Gruenwald’s iconic run on “Captain America,” providing insight into how Offenberger understands Rob McFarlane. Beneath all the bravado and death wish, Rob is just a man doing his best to fight the good fight and develop his relationship with Atomik Bombshell, which has a wholesome appeal. It will be interesting to see how this relationship is further explored in future issues that fans will eagerly await. Hique’s pencils give off a Steven Butler vibe with influences of John Byrne, showcasing his skills at their best. Paired with Teo Pineheiro’s inks and colors, they create a visual masterpiece that complements Offenberger’s writing perfectly. This talented team deserves to stay together for the long haul. While this issue may not feature wedding bells, it offers an insightful look into Sgt. Flag that will be remembered. The story wraps up in a more sitcom-like fashion, but Sgt. Flag remains a worthy addition to the G-Man lineup, deserving praise and acclaim, and making it a great read overall.
