The latest release from Image Comics, titled “PURR EVIL,” is a six-issue miniseries by acclaimed writer and artist Mirka Andolfo. This time, she teams up with artist Laura Braga to craft a dark, supernatural mother-daughter drama. The story follows Rita, a mother trying to protect her daughter Deb from an impending eldritch threat. Rita has built a blood life and lies to hide a sinister evil from her past. When this terrifying force reemerges, it threatens anyone who gets too close, forcing the pair to navigate an apartment full of secrets and a potentially catastrophic world.
While Andolfo is an excellent storyteller and the concept is engaging enough to attract readers, the series suffers from common debut issues—multiple plotlines and abrupt scene shifts that can feel disjointed, making it harder to enjoy. However, Andolfo effectively maintains the mystery surrounding Rita and Deb, offering numerous plot threads for those willing to see the story’s full potential. Laura Braga’s artwork, complemented by Bryan Valenza’s stylized coloring, enhances the dark atmosphere with rich detail, despite the series’ rapid pacing. “PURR EVIL” succeeds due to its compelling concept and moody tone but would benefit from a more stable plot in future issues. Nonetheless, the setup offers enough intrigue to keep fans of horror and suspense engaged.
