This week, I will review issue number eight of “Assorted Crisis Events” from Image Comics.

The latest edition centers on Wally Webb, a homeless comic artist who falls into the gutters—the white spaces between comic panels—after experiencing repeated ups and downs in his life. Can he find his way back to reality, or is he forever lost in the white space between panels? From the first page, the story offers an unconventional but brilliant take on its plot, using metaphors of Quantum Manipulation Technology to explore Wally’s existence and the many hardships he faced—from high and low points in his career (also injecting his life into the comics he creates) to meeting his wife and his daughter’s birth—in a surreal manner. Deniz Camp continues to push creative boundaries, combining thought-provoking storytelling with a fourth-wall-breaking style that will deeply impress readers, especially when Wally is shown trapped in interdimensional voids between moments in time. This emotional element leaves a lasting impact, underscoring why this series remains powerful. Eric Zawadzki’s art, complemented by Jordie Bellaire’s coloring, vividly captures the story’s reality-warping effects, enhancing the haunting atmosphere while maintaining its uniqueness. While the previous seven issues have stretched the limits of imagination, this latest edition may be the best yet, thanks to its abstract narrative and a revealing, complex look into a comic book artist’s life—where the boundaries between reality and fiction blur—leaving a memorable impression.

Well, that’s it for me. Thanks for sticking around, and I look forward to seeing you all next time.
