This week, I review issue seven of “Assorted Crisis Events” from Image Comics. The story centers on Tom Doublay, who suffers from a condition where he is surrounded by dead bodies bearing his face from alternate realities, making a normal life impossible. Known for its innovative storytelling, the series presents a concept that, while intriguing, feels quite bleak as it delves into Tom’s trauma. He must live with the haunting presence of his own corpse appearing everywhere he goes—whether dumped at a local site or buried in his backyard. The theme of desperation is vividly explored, especially as Deniz Camp reveals Tom’s psyche beginning to fracture under the mounting pressure, but despite his efforts to cope—finding ways to manage the bodies—the story culminates in a bleak outlook for Tom that prevents true empathy for him and at the same time, underscores that his life will never be normal. Once again, “Assorted Crisis Events” offers a compelling narrative with profound emotional depth, compelling readers to reconsider human mortality and the implications of immortality in a way that is both thought-provoking and emotionally powerful.
Well, that’s it for me. Thanks for sticking around, and I look forward to seeing you all next time.
