This week I will take a look at ALF # 4. This issue means a lot to me seeing as how I got this as a birthday present from my good friends Darrick Oyama and Kris Iwamoto from Legends Comics and Games Fresno (Thanks again!). The stories in this issue are hilarious even thought the second story is filler material. Let’s check it out, shall we…..?!
The opening story finds ALF and Kate Tanner switching bodies with just hectic yet humorous results. ALF then tells the Tanners a story about his days on Melmac where he and a professor have to survive a monster called ” Modzilla”; Finally, ALF transforms himself into the superhero called “The Fantastic Fur” so that he can stop a local coat burglar. While the second story felt uninspired, the other two stories really helped in making ALF a household name in comics and how the creative team can have fun and do stories that could not have been told in the T.V. series (which was in its third season when this issue came out); I really like that this series had a purpose back in its heyday- and that was to open up ALF’s world that continues to maintain the goofy humor that creator Paul Fusco developed. Should ALF make a comeback? Absolutely, but until the ball gets rolling on that this series is a great way to get a laugh while reminding the old-school audience that it’s still cool to be an ALF fan….just stay away from any cats or performing any mannerisms from Melmac.
