Writer contest FAQ:
Why should Philbo own the rights to my script when I wrote it?
Answer: Philbo Publishing is providing the story plot of which the writer is expounding upon. Using your script for your own means is stealing the plot line and Philbo has the rights to that.
What if Philbo uses my script even though I didn’t win?
Answer: All contestants will sign a contract that states any scripts used by Philbo Publishing will be compensated at the rate offered ($30 per page) with full credit to the writer.
Why must I sign an NDA?
Answer: To protect Philbo Publishing from having their story and plotline stolen from another Publisher/writer.
Why would I write a story so you can own it?
Answer: In the same manner a writer would write for Marvel or DC based on their world of characters the publisher owns the rights and the writer gets a fee (work for hire). The writer gets payment, credit and in stores across the world in return.
Do I, as the writer have the right to print and sell my own books?
Answer: No the writer does not have publishing rights. The publisher will pay for the production of the book as well as utilize the plot and world they provided so all rights to print and publish are the publishers only. However complimentary copies will be provided at the publishers expense up to the amount agreed upon in the contest rules.
How do I know you will really use my story for a published book if I win and when will you use it?
Answer: Each contestant will sign a contract that states the terms of which will include that the winning scripts will be subject to the rules of the contest. This legally provides reassurance. When it is used will be based on the production schedule of the publisher.
