In partnership with Baltimore Comic-Con’s signature awards show, the Ringo Awards, Oni Press is also proud to reveal another extremely special ARCHIE #1 exclusive that will serve as the first-ever, dedicated Ringo Awards variant cover and feature the late Mike Wieringo’s rarely seen 2007 character redesign for Archie and Jughead for the first time in print. This extremely rare ARCHIE #1 variant cover will only be made available in gift bags for attendees of the 2026 Ringo Awards and will never be sold at commercial retail. Mike Wieringo’s artwork appears courtesy of the Wieringo family.
“Seeing a cover like this reminds me of Mike Wieringo’s great generosity of spirit,” said Marc Nathan, owner of Baltimore Comic-Con. “It is genuinely thrilling to see that legacy continue with special artwork like this, and it’s great that Oni is sharing it with Ringo Award attendees this year.”
“As a kid growing up in DC and Maryland, my earliest memories of discovering comics are totally inseparable from the work of Mike Wieringo, who made an instantaneous impact with his work on The Flash and Robin – both for myself and tens of thousands of fellow fans,” said Hunter Gorinson, Oni Press President & Publisher. “On behalf of the entire team at Oni Press, it’s a true joy to honor Mike’s indelible memory and lasting influence with this special and warmly felt tribute at the very same convention that played such a pivotal role in his life. We’d like to thank Marc Nathan, Randy Tischler, Matt Wieringo, and the entire extended Baltimore Comic-Con and Ringo Awards family for making this special project possible.”
