MomoCon 2023 Breaks New Record of 48,000 Gamers, Animation Fans

ATLANTA, GA — March 29, 2023 — MomoCon 2023, the largest celebration of gaming and anime in the Southeast United States, hosted a record-breaking event with more than 48,000 unique attendees at the Georgia World Congress Center from Thursday, May 25, to Sunday, May 28, 2023.

One of the most exciting activities at MomoCon 2023 was the effort to break the world record for the number of people dressed as Spider-Man in a single space. Made in partnership with Sony Pictures in celebration of the upcoming theatrical release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, 445 people of all ages celebrated Spider-Man in all forms, falling just short of the current 601 Spider-Mans record.

Competitive gaming was fierce at MomoCon once again with Super Smash Bros. Hosted by VGBootCamp, more than 550 people battled for the title across three days of heated competition. Further esports results can be found on the official MomoCon 2023 Start.gg page.

Beloved family-friendly MMO Toontown Rewritten celebrated its 10th anniversary at the show with a weekend-long ToonFest: Birthday Bash. Classic titles also thrived as the Retro World Series returned with ten competitions from Tekken 3 to Pokémon Puzzle League.

With more than 80 guests and celebrities in attendance, this was one of the most exciting years for MomoCon attendees ever. Don Bluth, animation director and producer on movies such as Anastasia and All Dogs Go to Heaven, was a guest of honor who delighted fans with a panel illustrating his career, now available online.

“We’re grateful to the fans who join us in celebrating our favorite stories and characters, year after year. This year was fantastic and we’re already looking forward to 2024,” said Co-Founder Chris Stuckey. Fellow Co-Founder Jess Merriman also stated, “This was a special year. We were so close to a world record thanks to our community. Even if we didn’t make it, this is a point of history we’ll always cherish.”
