Behind the Panels: Building a Career in Comics
Allison O’Toole, Derek Laufman, and Jason Loo answer a bunch of questions about a career in comics, among the topics covered were how they got into comics and their first pro work, jobs before they became professional comic creators, what a day in their life looks like as a professional and personally, advise they would give to their younger self, challenges they faced and how it shaped them, how comics evolved and continue to do so, how they realized doing comics for a living was a thing they could do, how they deal with creative block, what a parent can do support their kids who love making comics, how long it takes to make a comic, do they draw traditionally or digitally and what apps they use for digital work, what should be in a portfolio, how they write stories, advise they’d give to somebody doing a kickstarter, time management and meeting with editors, drawing exercises they do and internships.
