MATTHEW AND MARK ELIJAH ROSENBERG TEAM UP WITH ARTIST ANDY MACDONALD FOR NEW IMAGE COMICS ONGOING IF DESTRUCTION BE OUR LOT

Creative Team Behind Anticipated New Series Reveal Full Line Up of Variant Covers for Issues 1 & 2, With Each Issue Featuring a Special “Where’s Abe” Homage Cover By Celebrated Creators

PORTLAND, OR — Celebrated comic book writer Matthew Rosenberg (We’re Taking Everyone Down With Us, 4 Kids Walk Into A Bank) and his brother Mark Elijah Rosenberg (Approaching the Unknown, Year Million) team up with artist Andy Macdonald (Doctor Strange, Wonder Woman) colorist Francesco Segala, and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou for If Destruction Be Our Lot, a smart new speculative science fiction series painting an all too possible picture of humanity’s end.

Today, Image Comics and the team behind this timely new ongoing announce the full lineup of covers for issues number 1 and 2 from series artist Andy MacDonald with Francesco Segala, Jerome Opeña and Neeraj Menon, James Harren, Tradd Moore, Tula Lotay, and Cliff Chiang.  Each issue will also feature a special ‘Where’s Abe?’ homage cover where the book’s protagonist wanders onto the cover of another beloved Image Comics title, as drawn by that book’s artist. Issue one’s Ice Cream Man homage is drawn by Martín Morazzo and issue two will have a Sex Criminals homage by Chip Zdarsky, with plenty more to come.

“This is the kind of book I thought I might go my whole career and never get to make. It’s hugely ambitious, deeply personal, staggeringly weird, and unbelievably fun” says co-creator Matthew Rosenberg. “There is something very special in our story about the lonely robots who continue on long after humankind is gone. It has given all of us the chance to really say something universal and honest, while still being very different from what anyone is expecting.

In If Destruction Be Our Lot, humanity is extinct and all that remains are the robots who once helped us. The robots are happier now, doing their work without human interference. But not Abe, a robotic replicant of Abraham Lincoln in search of meaning beyond the daily grind. Abe believes there must be something more out there beyond the edge of the city. After nearly getting killed, he’s determined to wander the Earth until he finds it… or gets recycled trying.

“There’s a tender humanity in this story about a robot on an epic quest to find meaning and connection that eases the burden of our modern life” says artist Andy MacDonald. “In this story of cold mechanical world, there’s a warm, beating heart that makes me love every character in it.”
