“Star-Bastard is an all out action space romp featuring flawed characters readers love to hate. Our dysfunctional crew follow their invulnerable walking hormone of a captain, stumbling through encounters with galactic empires, monsters and talking fart clouds in a search for clues to Greeves forgotten past. Along the way people laugh, people cry, people swear and people bleed … A LOT.”
“There’s even a ships cat! Whats not to love?”
What’s not to love!?!? Are you kidding!?!? One part Sci Fi, one part heavy metal rockstar and a healthy dollop of humour and you get what looks to be a fantastic comic of space opera awesomeness. My latest Kickstarter find is a comic out of the UK by Andrew Clemson. Star Bastard regales the tale of the space ship Ghost-Huffer. Crewed by Greeves, Max and Molly they are narrowly avoiding capture by the Morgite Emprire. We have Empire Flagships, a vengeful fiancé, nasty hangovers and mercenary lizard-men. What more can you ask for?
Star-Bastard is written by Andrew Clemson and the few pages that are shown in the Kickstarter campaign flow well with the witty banter you would expect. Some mature reader language so be warned this is not a kids comic. Artist Jethro Morales has worked on comics like Green Hornet and Vampirella/Army of Darkness so the pages are polished and professional with a bit of a Chris Sprose influence. Colours are handled by Teo Gonzalez and look great while Lettering is done by HDE Smith, both having professional credits to their names.
A limited run of 250 copies were produced in April of 2016 and sold out on the convention scene. The Kickstarter hopes to raise funds to produce a larger 2nd print run and some capital to work on Issue #2. Rewards include PDF digital copies, physical copies, an exclusive Kickstarter variant cover, original art, T-Shirts, etc. Lots of good stuff with a wide range of funding levels. With 28 days to go the project is fully funded so definitely a go with stretch goals being announced soon. Please check it out.
