San Diego Comic-Con makes for a great landing spot for the spectacular Spider-Man. Wizards of the Coast celebrated the upcoming release of the Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man set. Fan-favorite superheroes, foes, and allies from across 60 years of Spider-verse action will be in full swing to buff up your decks. This special offside quickly gained traction at the Hard Rock Hotel on Wednesday, July 23, and was available for those who could RSVP.
Fans who attended the event were transported into a piece of Spider-Man’s New York City at the Hard Rock Hotel Ballroom. The area was themed to immerse fans and excite them for a night to remember. Upon entering the room, there were pop-up spots where attendees could interact with the staff, engage in epic photo ops, and get exciting loot.
The spots included Divine Doughworks, the Daily Bugle, the Friendly Neighborhood Game Store, the Information & Welcome Deck Pick-Up, and two bars with themed drinks.
The Welcome Decks handed out at the event consisted of Ghost-Spider (Red), Spider-Man (White), Venom (Black), Miles Morales (Green), and Spider-Man 2099 (Blue). In the same area where attendees obtained their cards, there were several tables where they could learn to play with staff.
The Divine Doughworks handed out a promo Amazing Spider-Man comic to each attendee. Additionally, the Daily Bugle Newsstand handed out a fun, realistic Daily Bugle with a Magic playmat and mini-games inside.
Photo op areas immersed attendees in J. Jonah Jameson’s office with great detail and fun easter eggs, with other photo backdrops highlighting the New York alley and Spider-Man street aesthetic. Though the biggest reveal was a surprise musical appearance and concert from DMC of Run DMC.
The atmosphere was very welcoming, with everyone fresh and energetic and ready for the start of Comic-Con weekend. The Magic: The Gathering | Marvel’s Spider-Man set will launch on September 26, where Magic cards are available.
