Introducing the 2024 Ringo Awards Jury

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND – March 26, 2024 – The Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards is an annual celebration of the creativity, skill, and fun of comics. The awards will be presented on Saturday, September 21, 2024 as part of the fan- and pro-favorite convention, The Baltimore Comic-Con. The Ringo Awards is currently in the midst of the 2024 nomination process, which is inclusive of fans and comic book professionals alike. Please submit your nominations before voting closes at midnight on May 23, 2024.

The Jury

An esteemed jury of comics professionals will participate in the nomination process, selecting favorite works in over 20 categories. The 2024 jury was chosen as a representative cross-section of the comic book industry, with members representing seasoned and venerated retailers, educators, and creators across numerous genres.

Alan Gill

Alan Gill is the Founder of Ultimate Comics, a five-store family of brick and mortar comic shops he co-owns with Siena Fallon that has just celebrated its 20 year anniversary, as well as the owner and operator of the NCComicon, a comic creator-focused boutique comic book convention that takes place yearly in November in downtown Durham, NC, which just celebrated its ten year anniversary.

A lifelong comic fan, Alan started reading comics in 1976 and never stopped. He even sold comics while serving in the US Navy from 1988-1992 (he was like the Avon lady of comics for service members).

“Representation is a critical element of our jury,” said Marc Nathan, Baltimore Comic-Con promoter. “Having people who have worked for the Big Two or mid-size publishers or micro-press or self-published, who have worked in different mediums, who have written or created art or edited, who have taught or written about the medium, who have worked as a retailer or with the retailing community, who have different personal backgrounds — these all contribute to what makes for a solid final ballot. We are thrilled to have these individuals working together this year, and look forward to seeing the results of their work!”
