Imperial #1 – Jonathan Hickman’s next epic is a cosmic adventure that beautifully showcases his strengths in world-building and characterization. The story unfolds with a vibrant ensemble cast featuring The Hulk, Star-Lord, Nova, and Hulkling, among others. It feels like a grand-scale version of “Game of Thrones,” captivating from the very first pages! While the pacing and heavy exposition might seem a bit overwhelming at times, it’s Hickman doing what he does best—laying out the pieces for us. We see The Hulk, She-Hulk, and Amadeus Cho mourning the death of Hiro-Kala, The Hulk’s son, as they strive to keep the peace on Sakaar En Nero and prevent chaos from erupting. An intriguing aspect is Star-Lord’s role as a key figure alongside Nova (the Richard Rider version), shining a light on some more recognizable yet often overlooked cosmic characters in the Marvel Universe, which looks very promising. Iban Coello and Federico Vincentini share art duties, bringing a stunning and stylish vibe to the series that aligns beautifully with Hickman’s script, showcasing the galaxy’s rich splendor in their unique ways. “Imperial” embarks on a bold and powerful journey, focusing on Marvel’s cosmic side and launching with splendid energy! However, some action sequences may feel a bit rushed, and certain concepts could be confusing for new readers. Overall, this is the innovative cosmic story fans have eagerly been longing for, especially with Jonathan Hickman at the helm.
Radiant Black #34 – This series has patiently been building anticipation, introducing a new villain named “Jaeger,” who makes his full appearance in the latest issue of “Radiant Black.” He might just be one of the most formidable villains to emerge from The Massive-Verse! Kyle Higgins and Joe Clark showcase their unstoppable writing partnership, perfectly blending the exhilarating action and intensity found in a “Radiant Black” story with the much-needed humor that ensures a lighthearted start. However, the serious undertones quickly kick in, highlighting the dangers of superheroics without sugarcoating, presenting it in all its gritty realism. Readers witness the intense and brutal battle between Radiant Black and Jaeger unfold before their eyes. Jaeger emerges from the shadows as a significant threat to Marshall, and with the impactful events in this issue, we can’t wait for the next one!
Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #1 – This issue launches the latest installment featuring characters from the new Ultimate universe meeting those from the 616 Marvel Universe. In this exciting scenario, Miles Morales, who has ties to the previous incarnation of the Ultimate universe, arrives in this world to find his younger sister, Billie, who has somehow been transported from her world due to The Maker’s schemes. As Miles finds himself face-to-face with Peter Parker and his son, Richard, who has also taken on the Spider-Man mantle, this crossover feels quirky and engaging! While it has some entertaining moments that leap off the pages, it does feel a bit rushed at times. The story craves further development, even with two of Marvel’s top writers, Deniz Camp and Cody Ziglar, leading this dynamic event. They expertly capture the high stakes of Miles’s journey to find his sister, yet the event seems to miss some deeper exploration, resulting in a bit of underdevelopment. This slows the pacing until the next few issues can build some exciting momentum. Jonas Scharf’s artwork feels somewhat disjointed and rough, not fully doing justice to Camp and Ziglar’s writing. However, thanks to the charming elements within the issue, this event appears intriguing enough to see how things unfold in the coming issues. Let’s hope for more heartwarming moments with Miles alongside Peter & Richard!
Well, that’s it for me. Thanks for sticking around, and I look forward to seeing you all next time.
