Geek-Girl returns – with an Identity Crisis!
Since landing a pair of power-inducing super-tech glasses, ‘Geek-Girl’ (a moniker jokily given to Ruby Kaye by her BFF Summer James after Ruby’s initial difficulty handling her newfound super-strength led to some klutzy actions) has blossomed from a self-satisfying ‘It Girl’ to the heroine of her city of Maine – taking down major-threat super-villain Lightning Storm and playing an integral part in stemming the crime wave that sprung up in the wake of the damage Lightning Storm did to Maine’s law enforcement.
Created and written by Sam Johnson (The Almighties, Cabra Cini: Voodoo Junkie Hitwoman) and illustrated by C Granda (Charmed, Grimm Fairy Tales) – the Geek-Girl: Identity Crisis TPB finds Geek-Girl fronting a new Super-Team funded by entrepreneur Johnny Carlyle. But just as that’s about to get off the ground, Ruby is going to encounter a threat unlike anything she’s faced before – in the form of Identity Thief, who wants to be her – literally – and has the powers to do it!
Johnson fills us in on what the new story arc means for Geek-Girl; “Ruby has grown from being a party girl, used to getting anything she wants, into a self-sacrificing Heroine, who’s about helping others… Or has she? When Identity Thief strips Geek-Girl of her looks and infiltrates her life, we’re going to find out what Ruby Kaye is really made of.”
And just as Geek-Girl experiences her Identity Crisis, her BFF Summer – who kind of pushed her into the ‘whole Super-Hero thing’ in the first place – is out to get her own powers and fill the gap in Geek-Girl’s team left by one of its members pulling out.
Johnson continues, “Having borrowed Ruby’s super-tech glasses and filled in as Geek-Girl while Ruby was out of action after her battle with Lightning Storm, Summer is in love with the idea of being her own Super-Heroine, and is going to do whatever it takes to become one and be a part of GG’s team… which involves hooking up with the power-sharing Hive – whose other members – Glassy Lady and Pete the Pimp – are…not exactly typical heroes – and Summer’s aspirations are going to lead her down a dark path…
