Magic: The Gathering is returning to Middle-earth three years after Universes Beyond: Tales of Middle-earth with a whole new adventure. The Hobbit set takes players along with Bilbo Baggins and the Company of Dwarves. From the Shire to the Lonely Mountain, journey through Middle-earth, encountering adorable creatures, goblins, treasures, and dragons along the way. Notable characters are featured in this set, such as Gandalf, Bilbo, Thorin, Thranduil, Smaug, Gollum, Bard, and many more.

The Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit set officially releases Friday, August 14, with pre-release events taking place at local game stores from August 7-13. The set launches on MTG Arena and Magic Online on August 11.
Here is our brief rundown on the mechanics and products of The Hobbit!
Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold
Prerelease kicked off earlier this month, and first impressions are surfacing with favored commanders and prized cards. Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit contains over 200 cards, with an incredibly rare Gleaming Gold Smaug the Magnificent card featured only in collector boosters. Other delights in this set include cards adorned with dwarven runes and dragon-hoard frames.
The set is filled with stunning illustrations that entice collectors and players alike to relive iconic moments. Full Art Book Cover illustrations put a spotlight on beloved characters, giving them that vintage, well-worn touch. The journey of Thorin and Company is depicted in Land full art cards from Hobbiton through Mirkwood.
Worthy Treasures For A Worthy Burgler
Beloved artifacts capture the essence of legendary swords and weapons taken to battle in the stories. Of course, aside from adventures, what claims a Hobbit’s heart but food? Food tokens are a helpful mechanic in this set!
Some iconic artifacts include Andúril, Getaway Barrel, Glamdring, and Key to the Side-Door.
Mechanics of the set include:
Storied: If you control three or more artifacts, legendaries, and/or Sagas, you have an enduring story for the rest of the game.
Food: Add Mana for each Food you control.
Recruit: Draw a card, then discard a card. If you discarded a nonland card, create a 1/1 white Human Soldier creature token
Hone Counter: Each hone counter on an Equipment grants +1/+0 to equipped creature.
Amass: Amass Goblins X, where X is that excess damage. Put X +1/+1 counters on an Army you control. It’s also a Goblin. If you don’t control an Army, create a 0/0 black Goblin Army creature token first.
Products for Magic: The Gathering | The Hobbit is similar to previous sets with additional Scene Boxes depicting iconic moments. This set has Collector Boosters, a Gift Bundle, a standard Bundle, Draft Night, and Boosters.
