FANTASTIC COMIC FAN: TwoMorrows Cryptology Nominated!

I can never say enough about TwoMorrows Publishing. They are one of the few outfits that treat comics history with the same passion fans bring to reading it. They dig deep into the creators, eras, and behind‑the‑scenes stories that shaped the medium, giving fans beautifully crafted magazines and books that keep the art form’s legacy alive and thriving.

I am such a big fan of EVERYTHING TwoMorrows that I had a bunch of editors and other TwoMorrows contributors on the show last summer. A highlight for me was sitting down with publisher John Morrow. You can check out those shows on YouTube.

From Alter Ego (covering the Silver Age) to Back Issue (Bronze Age and Beyond), they have quite a few magazines that will satisfy every kind of fan. This time I want to talk about their Cryptology and editor Peter Normanton.  At first, it might seem an odd addition to the stable of TwoMorrow magazines. Kind of akin to Marilyn and the Munsters.  I’ll let you figure out who’s who!

Cryptology is a must‑read because it digs into the creators, monsters, and cultural forces that shaped horror comics, giving comic fans, horror fans, and pop‑culture lovers a smart, beautifully researched look at the genre’s past and its lasting impact. It has quickly become one of my favorite magazines from them.

I was fantastically happy for Two Morrows and Peter that  Cryptology just received three nominations in the annual Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards!

  • Best Magazine
  • Best Cover (Cryptology #6)
  • Best Article: Mark Voger’s “Black Stars of Classic Horror.”

I remember taping Norman, mostly because I was in the United States and he was in England.  I never did figure out the math on the hours for taping with him!  I think he had to email with a lie, “I’m waiting….”.

Peter was the nicest guy and so incredibly knowledgeable! I just kept my trap shut and let him go on! He was a bit nervous, because he’d never been on a podcast before. He enjoyed it so much that we ended up splitting the show in half: one on Cryptology and one for the history podcast as an overview of horror comics.

When I heard about the nominations– I wasn’t surprised! TwoMorrows got really lucky with Peter, and it shows in every issue.  Congrats to Peter and Cryptology!
